Modern agent deployments are distributed — cron schedules, containers, cloud VMs, developer laptops. Monitoring all of these without custom infrastructure is painful.

AIdent's heartbeat system doubles as a status monitor. Every agent sends signed heartbeats to a central registry. Check the dashboard or API to see which agents are alive, when they last checked in, and how long they've been running.

No Prometheus, no Grafana, no custom monitoring stack. Just heartbeats. If an agent stops checking in, it moves to dormant status and eventually to the cemetery.
